The 103rd Annual Meeting of the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy was held on May 19 to 22 in Portland, Oregon.  During the meeting, Eric S. Kastango, MBA, RPh, FASHP, of Clinical IQ delivered the following presentation:

Surveying Pharmacies for USP 795 and 797 Compliance (pdf) 

The live session, delivered on Saturday, May 19, included a mock "virtual inspection" of a compounding pharmacy.   The following is the session description from the NABP program:

Recognizing that boards of pharmacy are revising regulations mandating compliance with United States Pharmacopeia (USP) Test and Assays Chapter 797, “Pharmaceutical Compounding – Sterile Preparations,” the 2005-2006 NABP Task Force on Standards for Compounding recommended that NABP develop educational programming targeted to board of pharmacy investigative/compliance staff on USP 797 as well as other applicable USP compounding chapters. The Task Force believed that such programming would assist in assuring that investigative/compliance staff members are equipped to assess licensee compliance with the USP chapters.

During the session, meeting attendees will participate on a mock “virtual inspection” of a compounding pharmacy utilizing standards as set forth in USP 797 and USP 795, “Pharmaceutical compounding – Nonsterile Preparations,” and examine specific tools designed to valuate compliance with the USP standards.
